David Edelberg, the firm partner in charge of the Bankruptcy Law Department, presented a seminar to a group of Family Law Judges and lawyers regarding the interplay of Bankruptcy Law and Divorce Law. Mr. Edelberg presented the seminar together with Bankruptcy Judge Rosemary Gambardella. Mr. Edelberg and Judge Gambardella's presentation was titled "What Every Family Law Practitioner Should Know About Bankruptcy Law."

Anthony Pantano Represents Major Health Club in Acquiring Wayne Health Club

Anthony Pantano, the firm partner in charge of the Corporate, Real Estate and Transactional Department, recently represented a major area fitness club in connection with its acquisition of a World Gym location on Hamburg Turnpike, Wayne, New Jersey. The club facility consists of 35,000 square feet.


Bradley M. Wilson Successfully Defends the City of Newark

Bradley M. Wilson, a litigation partner at the firm, recently succeeded in obtaining summary judgment in favor of the City of Newark, thereby defeating an action instituted by a multinational telecommunications company. The telecommunications company sued Newark seeking various benefits, including a two million dollar payment, based upon promises made in a letter drafted by former Mayor Sharpe James. The telecommunication company’s appeal of the decision is currently pending.


John R. Lloyd Speaks on Real Property Tax Appeals

John R. Lloyd, the firm partner in charge of the Real Property Tax Appeal Department, was the keynote speaker at two regional conferences dealing with current valuation issues in real property taxation. John discussed the impact of “business value” on estimating the market value of regional shopping malls at the annual New Jersey Seminar for the Society of Assessing and Appraisal Professionals. Mr. Lloyd’s presentation focused on his representation of a municipality defending a tax appeal filed by a major regional shopping center. Mr. Lloyd also presented a talk on “Tax Appeal Valuations in an Uncertain Market” to the Southern New Jersey Chapter of the Appraisal Institute.


Bill Bierman Chairs National Transportation Conferences

William D. Bierman, the firm partner in charge of the Transportation Law Department, also serves as the Executive Director of the Transportation Loss Prevention and Security Association (TLP&SA), a national trade group. TLP&SA recently held its annual Joint Conference with the Transportation & Logistics Council in San Diego, California.  Bill organized the Conference and was a featured speaker.  In addition, Bill will be named as Chairman of the Conference of Freight Counsel at the June 2008 meeting in Denver, Colorado. Bill presently serves as the Vice-Chairman of that organization.


Henry J. Amoroso is appointed President of St. Vincent’s Medical Centers

Firm partner Henry J. Amoroso was chosen as President and Chief Executive Officer of St. Vincent’s Catholic Medical Centers.  Amoroso was chosen by the Medical Centers’ directors after a national search by a search committee.  Mr. Amoroso previously served as President and CEO of Catholic Health and Human Services, which manages programs in the Newark, New Jersey area.  Since 2002, Mr. Amoroso has served as Chairman of Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Newark.


Herbert C. Klein Represents Secaucus Junction Developer

Partner Herbert C. Klein is representing Edison Parking in its efforts to develop a parking lot adjacent to the Secaucus Junction Train Station. The proposed lot is slated to have 1,100 surface parking spaces. As a result of Mr. Klein's efforts, Edison is nearing approval for the project from the Meadowlands Commission. This high profile project has received the editorial support of New Jersey’s leading newspapers, including the Star Ledger and The Record.


Michael J. Noonan Settles Medical Malpractice Case for $300,000.00

Michael J. Noonan successfully settled a medical malpractice case arising from unsuccessful hand surgery for $300,000.00. The firm's client was a hair dresser who required the use of her hands in connection with her employment. As a result of pain in her dominant hand, the defendant doctor recommended surgery. However, the surgery was unsuccessful, causing the client to lose motion in her thumb.


Bradley M. Wilson Successfully Defends Engineer in Condominium Construction Action

Bradley M. Wilson successfully defended a professional engineering company in an action filed by a large condominium association. The condominium sued the engineering firm and several co-defendants seeking to recover ten million dollars in damages arising from water infiltration into the condominium building. The engineering firm had designed and supervised a water leakage remediation project on the high rise condominium building pursuant to specifications provided by the manufacturers of the remediation material. The condominium demanded damages from the engineering firm of 1.75 million dollars on the eve of, and during, the trial of this matter in the Superior Court of New Jersey. After 4 weeks of trial, and following Mr. Wilson’s cross examination of the condominium’s experts, the condominium agreed to settle all claims against the engineering firm for less than one third of the previous settlement demand.


Henry J. Amoroso Appointed Legal Advisor to the Permanent Working Commission Between the Holy See and the State of Israel

Firm partner Henry J. Amoroso has been appointed legal advisor to the Permanent Working Commission Between the Holy See and the State of Israel. In such capacity, Mr. Amoroso regularly attends meetings between the Commission and representatives of the Israeli government. The Commission’s responsibilities include meeting with the Israeli government for purposes of discussing and resolving issues of concern regarding Catholic holy sites located in the State of Israel.


Michael J. Palma Successfully Defends Bar/Restaurant in Personal Injury Claim

Michael J. Palma obtained a complete victory from a Morris County jury. Mr. Palma was defending a trip and fall claim asserted against a bar/restaurant. The plaintiff suffered serious knee injuries while walking around a buffet table. Three other witnesses testified on the plaintiff’s behalf, stating that they also tripped in the same location and manner as the plaintiff that same day. Nonetheless, Mr. Palma, a certified civil trial attorney, convinced the jury that the bar/restaurant was not liable for any of plaintiff’s injuries.
